October Devlog - Switching to Unity!

You're reading it right - Transformation Wonderland is switching from Ren'Py to Unity!

If you were wondering what was taking so long for the October devlog, this is what. Nothing much is changing, but I feel like at this point, I should just put my big boy pants on and make this game in an engine that's actually intended for it.

I'm still mixing the visual novel vibe with the RPG side of things, nothing about the game's story or how it plays will change. But after spending a month (or two) messing around in Unity and trying stuff out, I realized it's not actually as daunting as I thought.

I also want to put less pressure on myself in regards to "this and that needs to be done by x date" and just go with the flow - allowing myself as much time as I need to iron out bugs and make sure everything works.

The couple dozen Ren'Py scripts were getting tough to keep track of, too, and at some point, you sort of risk losing the plot on missing out on a variable or a link to the correct label. I find now that I've tried it, I just prefer the visual aspect of working with Unity.

(I feel like it's only appropriate to shout out YouTube channel Game Code Library - they've pretty much had me covered so far XD)

So yeah - last week I officially made the switch, and I'm now working on rebuilding to where I left off in Ren'Py. The basics such as the map are already set up, as well as the dialogue system - if you're curious what's different, take a peek at my Subscribestar, where I just posted a video showing off the new map and dialogue system!

Once the demo and chapter one are finished, they'll be replaced on Itch, and then the deed is done... and I'll be working to catch up with chapter two.

To get all the latest updates in the meantime, consider becoming a Subscribestar or Gumroad supporter! (Gumroad unfortunately requires a Discord account to access the content).

See y'all next month!
